Notebook battery retail sources

Is there anyway to purchase a new battery for a Dell inspiron without going through Dell?

Customer service nightmare when my harddrive needing placing ended with me having no intention of ever giving them business again, but while the notebook works fine, the battery is now useless. I'll suck it up until the time comes to buy a new computer altogether, unless there is a way to get a new battery without going through Dell. I hit up the usual online suspects, but didn't have any luck. I don't know enough about the thing to know if some other manufacturer's battery will work. Help?

Have you tried BatteriesPlus? In some areas they also have brick-and-mortar stores.
