Google vs. Opera

I cannot get Google products (GoogleEarth and Picasa) to link to Opera (or Firefox or anything) when they need to open up a webpage. Has my using Opera and Firefox somehow confused these pieces of software?

A couple of specific examples:
1) help pages in Picasa do not open up (they are web pages).
and
2) In GoogleEarth, links within location postings do not open.

Any ideas?

Best answer: Assuming this is a Windows box, it sounds like there's something wrong with your default Web browser settings.

Go to your Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs-> Set Program Access and Defaults, and within your chosen configuration, try choosing another browser from the list.

In addition, every single browser has a "Check if default browser on startup" or similar. Clicking that box, restarting the browser, and switching the default browser to that program should also change the default behavior. This will only apply if you select "Use Default Browser" in the above Program Access and Defaults settings.

I use Opera too, and as far as I can tell, Google just isn't set to play well with Opera browsers *at all.* I use Firefox when I must access Google; I haven't found a solution that really works for me over in Opera forums.

Response by poster: Meowzilla - THANKS! That did it! Somehow, neither browser was set as default, so neither would open. At least this way, firefox opens.

Medea - Ok, so I will have to resign myself to opera not working. But FF is a good compromise...
