Who's lost? I want to know about them.

Where can I find research on drivers that are lost on the road?

I'm looking for good research about:

1) How many people are lost at any given time
2) How they get unlost
3) Where are they lost (rural/urban)
4) The human factors of getting lost
5) etc.

Mainly for the United States, but research on other countries would be useful too.

This article published by an insurance company suggests, amongst other things, that up to 15% of drivers in urban areas are lost at any one time (in the UK). It also references an RAC foundation report titled 'Are we lost Yet?' but searches on the RAC Foundation website and Google fail to find it. Contacting the RAC foundation or the ONS, who are also referenced, may be worth a try.
