Blue Ridge, Georgia: what's the scoop?

Is the cabin rental / investment business in Blue Ridge, Georgia as 'hot' as it appears to be?

We are exploring the idea of purchasing a cabin in the Blue Ridge, GA mountains area as an investment. There appears to be a booming business in cabin rentals and several management companies handling cabin rentals for owners like us. Anybody out there knowledgeable about a) the Blue Ridge area, b) the real estate market there; c) cabin ownership in Blue Ridge as an investment? Thanks.

I've had a cabin up there for 2-3 years, and I like it a lot. We don't rent it though, so I can't speak to the economics of that. However, there are three rentals in the vicinity of our place, and they always seem to have people in them. During the time I've been going up there, the town has been growing, and property values have gone up quite a bit too. I'm happy with our investment.

Things to be aware of: Locals are slow-slow-slow about getting anything done. And that's if they show up at all. If your place needs repairs, expect it to take forever. Also, it is a dry county, except for package sales of beer and wine. But Ellijay is nearby, and they have a couple of very nice liquor stores. And Tennessee is nearby, and they have beer sales on Sunday (and fireworks too!)

Of course, being near the lake is probably the best, but that also equals the most expensive and most crowded. If you don't need the lake and would like more bang for your buck, you might want to investigate the Cashes Valley area.

Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
