Will a Karaoke CD play on a regular CD Player?

I bought a CD as part as a birthday gift. I didn't realize until I peeled the price sticker off that it's a karaoke CD. Will it play on a CD player if the kid doesn't have a karaoke machine? The CD has several vocal versions, so it's not completely useless for listening. Thanks.

Q: Can I play regular CD's in my Karaoke Machine?

A: Yes, regular CD's will play on your Karaoke machine, however no graphics are coded in them, so no lyrics will appear on-screen. On the flip side you can play CD+G's in a regular CD player as well, but you will also get just the music and no graphics since standard CD players are not equipped with a decoder to pick up the graphics on CD+G's.

I don't know what the band/artist is that you were trying to buy music of, but I'm with taking that cd back and getting the kid the real version of whatever you were looking for. While it may not be "useless for listening," karaoke cds aren't exactly known for their musicality... why not give the child the real thing?

Wow, I've never seen anyone flame themselves :)

BTW, Karaoke CD's are not ALWAYS CD+G. Most of the asian ones (I don't know about US) are pretty much VCDs, which will not player in a regular CD player.

miss lynnster, that would have been nice, but the party was looming. I had about an hour. She played the CD, it worked fine, sounded fine. It was a throw-in with a nicer gift, so not too terribly tacky I hope. Thanks all.
