Question: Stay Asleep, Little Mac

MacBookSleepFilter: I like how plugging in a USB device will wake my MacBook from sleep, but I hate how unplugging a USB device does the same. Is there a setting I can change?

I run my MacBook with the lid closed all day at work, and so on my way out the door from home I put it to sleep and can just wake it up by plugging in the USB part of my Cinema Display. Problem is, at the end of the day at work, I want to put the MacBook to sleep and be able to unplug everything without it waking up. I couldn't just unplug everything before sleeping, because that would disable the mouse, rendering it impossible to actually put the sucker to sleep. Any way to change this setting?

My solution, but not necessarily THE solution: I'm getting a bluetooth Mighty Mouse, and so the mouse will still work when I unplug the USB from the laptop. But the point stands.

You could use something like SleepNow in a script which delays sleeping for a few minutes and use that to sleep the computer. This'll give you the chance to do the unplugging before the Mac actually does go to sleep.

According to this hint (first response - not the hint itself), if you unplug the power connector first, unplugging the mouse will not wake the computer.

I tried in on my Powerbook, and it works. I can't say with certainty if it still works on the MacBook, but it's worth a shot.

I also tried unplugging the mouse with the lid closed (and power connected). It did wake up and churn for a few seconds, and then went back to sleep.

O9scar, that seemed to work. Let's hope it does it consistently.
