IE question: Why is it that sometimes I can save images as their original gif/jpg format, and sometimes it'll only let me save it as a bmp?

I understood it was a cache problem - I cleaned mine out and had no more problems.

Interesting. I've often wondered this myself. Thanks for the article, dodgygeezer. I'm still a little foggy on the "why," but I'll be trying those workarounds.

Refreshing the page alone usually does the trick for me.

On a related note, my bank's web site lets me view scans of my cancelled checks online, but if I try to print the page, the images print (and preview) as the squares with the red Xs in IE6. I always thought this had something to do with the JPG/BMP problem, but I could never figure that one out. Firefox, which I've been using for about a week at the urging of many people here, works fine though.

AstroGuy: I believe the problem you're having has to do with the fact that IE insists on refreshing the page (actually reloading it) when you try and print it out. This causes all sorts of problems.
