Question: The great men in "World of Apu"?

Towards the beginning of Satyajit Ray's Apur Sansar ( aka The World of Apu) there is a scene between Apu and his landlord. In it, the landlord mentions that Apu has pictures of great men pinned to his wall. I could make out Einstein, but is there a list somewhere of who the others are?

Are you able to post a still somewhere? I'm sure that I or other Indiaphiles would be able to have a decent crack at it if we can see the faces...

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find one. Anyway, in the film itself (at least on video) there's not really a close shot of the patch of wall with the pictures on it.

Hm. Not so easy.

From memory, the film was set roughly contemporaneously with its filming, so if you wanna go a bit random with the Google, see what turns up with Apu & Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, aka N S C Bose, aka Netaji ("fuhrer") - a popular Bengali WW2-era 'anti-Gandhi', who advocated violent struggle against the British.

Maybe try also Rabindranath Tagore.

Purely guessing here, based on Ray / Apu being Calcuttan / Bengali.
