Any ideas as to why I get this: Generic Error "TLS not supported by server" when I try to send email?

Because your mail server does not support TLS -- Transport Level Security. Most of them don't. Change the settings of your MUA ("mail client") not to use TLS.

Thanks, majick, that worked.

But now I seem to have a mystery...I haven't recently changed any of my email settings. This error message started just this morning. I use Opera's M2, so I should look through Opera's boards (duh).

maybe your mail server did support TLS, and now doesn't (if they've moved to different server software, for example).

TLS is for most intents and purposes the same as SSL (when it was a Netscape thing it was SSL; when it became a wider standard it was renamed TLS, but people still call it SSL). If you can use TLS/SSL, it's probably a good idea to do so, on the general principle that protecting your email password is a good idea.

My guess is that andrew cooke is right, something changed on the server. You could ask the server's administrator (tech support, whatever) about it.
