Need help identifying a song

What is the name of this song (8386 KB MP3), and who is singing it? I'm pretty sure it's called "Maybe". Lyrics inside.

It's a solo female singer, and sounds like it's from the '50s or '60s. The lyrics start begin with:
Maybe if i prayed every night
You'll come back to me
And maybe if i cried every day
You'll come back to stay
Oh baby
Maybe if i hold your hand
You will understand

"Maybe" by The Three Degrees

It was done by the Chantels long ago (late 50's) and then the Shangri-La's a few years later (early 60s) and later (early 70's) by the Three Degrees. But this version isn't any of them.

Response by poster: I was thinking the Three Degrees, because they came up when I Googled the lyrics, but the sample of the song from one of their albums on Amazon wasn't even close.

The tags say it's Stevie Ray Vaughn. Pretty sure that is a chick though.

Response by poster: Yeah, I figured the tags were way off—unless it's SRV in is pre-pubescent years. :-)

A Google search on a line or two of the lyrics is often an easy way to identify a song.

Sounds a little like Lucinda Williams belting out a cover.

maybe?

Given that Lou Ann Barton did a few albums with Stevie Ray Vaughan and recorded a version of Maybe, it's her.

To clarify, Stevie Ray was the guitarist in Lou Ann Barton's band before hitting it big on his own.
