Should I see the Robert Keen or Lyle Lovett show?

TwangFilter: Which show should I see, Robert Earl Keen or Lyle Lovett/John Hiatt/Joe Ely/Guy Clark?

They're within a week of each other, and leaving my wife home with the 8-week-old twice in seven days is a non-starter. Anybody seen both these tours? Any reason to recommend one over the other? I'm a big fan of Lyle, Hiatt and Keen, and I've seen Lyle numerous times, but never the other guys.

Best answer: see the latter, You could see Keen almost anytime, but you won't the the Lovett Hiatt Ely Clark tour again (most likely).

I'd definitely pick the one with Lyle Lovett... But why are you leaving your wife at home?... Surely you can find a good sitter for a few hours and let her enjoy some time away from the stress of being a new mommy. :)

Response by poster: Excellent point, magikker.

amyms: She's not so crazy about the twang, I'm afraid. Also not so down with leaving the little guy with a third party for an evening quite yet.

If it were me I'd see John Hiatt.

Good save, mfriesen... On behalf of all mothers, I apologize for thinking you were a selfish hubby.

Caught the latter a couple weeks ago. I like Robert Earl and all, but there was something truly special about four guys with acoustic guitars taking turns on the stage. I was pleasantly surprised by the energy Joe Ely brought, and Guy Clark's wry lyrics provided a nice complement. All four were very amenable to playing suggestions from the audience. Lyle and Hiatt were of course, great.

See the foursome.

Leave your inner A&M frat boy at home and see the latter.

Lovett is an Aggie too... They were college roommates.

No question: LL, JH, GC & JE.

I saw the show in Atlanta. It was great. Laugh out loud funny at times, tears on my wife's cheeks sad at others.
