Accidentally Deleted Sound Playback

What software do I need in order to install an audio playback device on Windows XP?

I was removing a video program from my computer and, in the process, accidentally deleted my sound playback program. I don't know what program it was. But no audio will play on my computer, and under "sound and devices" it says "no audio device". What can I re-install in order to fix this?

Best answer: What model is your computer? Drivers should be available at the manufacturer's website.

Response by poster: If I re-install Windows would that work? It's a Toshiba. I already looked on their website and couldn't find anything.

(does the "best answer" mark mean you fixed the problem? If not...) What model Toshiba? If you knew this, or the type of sound card, the driver can probably be found.

Response by poster: From researching it seems that what I must have accidentally deleted is "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator". Any idea on where I can find this to re-download?

Response by poster: There doesn't seem to be any way to download it without some extensive knowledge of computers.

Best answer: If you've got a Windows install disk, one mode is "repair". I think that's what you need to do. (But backup all important files before you try it.)
