Help me find other games in the same vein as Seven Kingdoms or, failing that, Netstorm.

Looking for another game in the same vein as Seven Kingdoms or, failing that, Netstorm.

Both of these games held great allure for me when they first came out (and off and on over the years since). Now, while I'm currently loading them both up to play again, my appetite has grown to the point that I desire something more.

I fell in love with the resource/trade system of Seven Kingdoms, and Netstorm was just a very unique concept to me, a combination of Magic: The Gathering, Street racing with Pink Slips, and a floating island background that has really stuck with me through the years.

So, what do you say, fellow AskMeFites? Any ideas that might appeal to a mind like mine (for the record, also a fan of Alpha Centauri, best Civ game ever!)?

How about Seven Kingdoms 2??? ;]

If you don't mind turn-based, and you're into Star Trek, check out Birth of the Federation. Master of Orion might also be up your alley.

Here's a bit of a stretch, but if you're into resource management/trading/fighting, you might like the "X" series - X2: The Threat, or X3: Reunion. Once you get them patched and updated, they're fantastically addictive.

Response by poster: MoO is fantastic, I loved MoO2, but #3 was kind of a let down. I've never tried the X series, I gotta look into that too. Thanks!

Anyone else got some ideas?

P.S.: SKII rules!

Galactic Civilizations, which also has a sequel now. It doesn't have as much micromanagement as Master of Orion, but it's insanely fun. Galactic Civilizations II also has an extensive utility for designing your own ships which can be so engrossing that you actually forget to play the game itself.

Space Rangers 2 has a horrible name and is somewhat less complicated on its surface than some of the other games discussed, but is totally addictive and offers some really deep game play. Plus, there are all kinds of mini-games, from text adventures to real-time strategy.

You also mentioned that you enjoyed the combination of Magic: The Gathering with strategy game elements in Seven Kingdoms. There's a new online game you might like to try called PoxNora that's like a cross between a collectible card game and an online strategy game. It's free to play, but you can purchase additional cards. I haven't played it, but it's gotten some fairly favorable press and sounds like it might be the kind of thing you're looking for.

Response by poster: Wow. That's a really interesting selection. Now that you mention it, I've heard of GC before, just never really pursued it. TY, I'll make sure to look into it this time. :) Same for PoxNora.
