Question: How to turn off "low ink" warning ?

I have a Dell Photo All-In-One Printer 924, and I can't get the "low ink" warning to go off. I did install a new black ink cartridge (not a DELL product), and it works fine, but the warning still won't go off. What can I do ?

Some of these printers have a microchip in the cartridge and you're screwed if you don't get the cartridge from the manufacturer. The only defense is to be sure not to buy a printer like that next time. I think their strategy of selling the printer at a loss and forcing you to buy their expensive cartridges to make up the difference is unethical.

Some things to try here?

Yeppers, it is a site where I'd have to pay for the answer; I can just put some duct tape over the "low ink" warning, that'll show those bums at DELL !

IME, Experts Exchange will often show you the forum conversation the first couple of times you visit ... usually, if you scroll down on the page, you'll often see the answer (in FF, at least). Not sure how/when they decide to actually block "access" to the thread, but when the do, it is sometimes possible to route around it by masquerading as the googlebot, or, more simply, looking at the google cached view.

The question was "abandoned", so there was no definitive answer, but the admin "accepted" an answer which advises using Dell Online Support (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/entry?c=us&l=en&s=gen) to help resolve the issue.

If you have not contacted Dell Support at all prior to asking this question, I'd advise you do so. It is very likely they have experienced this problem before.

On many of my printers, there is a software setting that resets the ink gauge.
