Background podcast downloader?

Free, (preferably) open source background podcast downloader for linux and OS X?

I'm looking for a free and preferably open source podcast downloader that will run in the background of linux and OS X and retrieve podcasts. Then, place the podcasts into a specified directory. It would also help to auto generate a playlist. The application does not have to be the same for linux and OS X but I am looking for applications for both platforms.

iTunes is free, but it is not open source. It will download podcasts, and it includes a "Smart Playlist" feature which will automatically add and remove items based on rulesets.

Try juice. I have not tried it, though. Sez it's popular.

Songbird is basically the iTunes interface with some added functionality - it's based on the firefox rendering engine, and all the extensibility contained therein. It is, however, still pretty beta.

Response by poster: Thanks for the replies. I am looking for more of something like a background service. I suppose iTunes will work on the Mac. Its for a MacBook that is not always on. I will have iTunes launch on login. As for Linux, I have a "media" server running Ubuntu Server 6.06 without a desktop manager. I wanted something that ran in the background without requiring that a user be logged on. Upon quick review, I don't see that Juicer or Songbird will do. I did stumble upon http://podracer.sourceforge.net and will try that out for a while.

Response by poster: I have found podget. Although, after a little bit of work, podracer is doing the job. However, podget looks more versatile and I may give it a try in the near future.
