Calgary hotel recommendations? Centrally located, not too expensive, clean, friendly, etc.

Are you going downtown (N-S determined by river and railroad tracks, East West by Centre Street - 10 Street) Many of the hotels in downtown run on average $150 per nite.

I would suggest you start with the International. There are others, but the International runs about 140 Cdn per nite, is clean, and has a restaurant/lounge in it if you don't feel like going out. Just up the street from Caesar's Steak House as well.

Others include the Delta Bow Valley, and the Palliser. Both are I think, overpriced for what you get, although the Palliser is arguably more centrally located. There are others of course, but I usually find the Int. to be best overall value.

Thanks for the responses thus far. I'll be heading there with the family in February. We'd be interested in staying near downtown, near the C-Train, or near one of the hip-ish neighbourhoods....

Days Inn on Macleod is right next to a C-Train station, $89.00 a night. It's kind of in a useless part of the city, but it is just south of downtown.

I don't dispute stevil's experience, but our room at the 5 was fine, and this was by far the cheapest for our family of 5 with a kitchen and separate bedroom. I'd stay there again if the price was right. Great location.
