Question: Tax accountant in Toronto?

Freelance artist seeks accountant in Toronto.

I've recently quit my job in favour of becoming a fulltime illustrator. What's the best way of finding an accountant familiar with small home businesses that can be my tax guru?

Janice Paul is a CGA who specializes in accounting for people in the arts. I just had a one-hour consultation with her, six years ago, but found it incredibly helpful. She's downtown near the corner of Queen St E and River St.

John Mott is my accountant and I'm self employed in a creative field. I highly recommend him. He's out of town on holiday till the 7th. The man's written best selling books for accountants so he knows his stuff.

Wow that's creepy - but dobbs is right - John is super and I would not be able to do what I do, as easily as I do, without him. He just rocks. (I didn't even know about the books!) I've used him for 2 years, found him online via Google search, and have been thrilled with the results.

To be clear - creepy because I never expected to read my own accountant's name in the thread! :)

It may be too late, but I'd highly recommend Young and Grunier. They represent me (have for years), and more than a handful of the top indie musicians, screenwriters, voice over artists and ACTRA members, and various creatives in the city, including a healthy dose of artists. So cool that Toronto Life created the 'Best Funky Accountant' ranking just for them in a recent Best Of (sadly couldn't find a link). Worth keeping in the loop if only for their logo (seen also on their business cards). Highly recommended.
