Computer & Internet news round-up 2006. What do you consider to be the biggest or most interesting tech and web news of the last year?

I've been travelling for the last 6 months and would be interested what big news I've missed. I've picked up Yahoo's various new homepages, ventures and purchases. I've also downloaded the various iTunes, Firefox, Warcraft and Adobe new releases, but what else is of note?

I would say Google's purchase of YouTube ranks way high up there ...

Do you want the best good news, or just the big news in general? The HP pretexting scandal was a big thing.

Probably any big site like Cnet or PC World will have a "year in review" feature.

IndigoRain: Big and best is fine. I'm aware there are probably lots of sites out there doing similar things, but im interested in independent mefie users opinions.

If you're into reading electronic books, there have been 2 readers released: Irex iLiad and Sony reader

Hopefully, from this point forward the e-book market will move forward quickly;
