Strange TV show question: What does eating meat have to do with pee?

I'm watching this episode of Sex and the City, in which Carrie's politico boyfriend asks her to pee on him. While discussing the topic at brunch, Samantha says she once peed on a guy during sex on accident and he didn't even notice. Charlotte then says, "I once had to stop eating meat for 6 months". What? I have no idea what that means, and there doesn't appear to be any other context for her comment in that conversation. Anyone have any idea? Is it some joke I'm not getting?

I think it was Charlotte (the "prude") attempting to change the topic.

... or charlotte needed less acidic urine for some delicate 6 month relationship.

I took it the way ApathyGirl said.

it might have to do with urobilinogen

(note that i just googled this stuff and have no idea if i'm right)

urobilinogen is a chromogen (i have no idea what that is) that is formed in feces and present in urine. if you have a meat diet, then there is more urobilinogen in your urine. now, you need a normal amount of this in your excrement. if you have too much or too little, that can be a sign that your liver isn't working correctly. Urobilinogen is bile (body waste) that needs to be removed from your body. The more urobilinogen that you have in your urine, the worse your urine smells and the less sterile it is. i guess people who enjoy a good piss on them want to have relatively clean urine gracing their skin.

Maybe it referred to giving BJ's. Didn't want to associate pee with the sex organ?

Yeah, I assumed she meant some guy peed in her mouth while giving him a blowjob. Seems a bit crude for Charlotte though.

Re: blowjobs, I really doubt that's what she meant. I also don't think she was trying to change the subject, just based on the tone of how she said it.

She was changing the topic.

The sex references/jokes aren't intellectual enough to reference relatively unknown medical facts.

She stopped eating meat because she was traumatized how sausages/hot dogs look like a penis? Because the slang for penis is often meat-related? Beat your meat, etc.

Charlotte is a prude, so there's possibly an explanation behind the line that was cut out of the show. If you're watching the syndicated version of the show rather than the DVD, you aren't viewing the episodes as they originally aired on HBO, it's possible that the line was cut due to community standards issues. My guess would be something like, "I had to stop eating meat for six months because my boyfriend smelled like roast beef...down there!"

Still, it's most likely a throwaway line to show her general discomfort with the topic of conversation...she wanted to bring things back to something she could actually comment upon, like eating meat. Peeing on someone is hardly in her arena.

I remember the episode, and it's not an editing for primetime tv issue. It's just Charlotte chiming in to the conversation with a factoid about herself as a response to Carrie's factoid about her boyfriend wanting to get peed on. The ladies' conversations tend to work that way, they each chime in about different things, changing the topic a lot and volunteering information about themselves. That's it.

I think she was just embarrased about the fact that they were standing in a crowded line waiting to go into a theather when Samantha said that, and it was Charlotte's way of trying to change the topic of conversation so that people nearby wouldn't look at her funny.

Oh wait, nevermind. I just watched the scene again and she wasn't changing the topic or referring to blowjobs or anything. She was just listing another example of something that she had once done for the sake of her partner that was unpleasant for her. Samantha's very next line is, "Look, sometimes for the right guy you have to make concessions. There's always going to be something."

there is a surprisingly tasty way to marinate certain steaks. poverty-striken people in eastern europe are said to have come up with it. they sold the 'better parts' of the cow and kept the lesser tasting flank steak parts (essentially the underside) for themselves. flank steak is not as tender as steaks cut from the rib or loin but they marinated it by ... yepp ... having women pee onto it before grilling. blond virgins, actually.

naaah, I'm just making that up. she's a prude who is trying to change the topic. AG got it right.

Thanks, Rhomboid, I never thought about it that way. I think you're onto something with the "concessions" idea- either that or the clean urine thing Stynxno mentioned.

I think if the rest of you saw the episode I was talking about, it's clear she's not trying to change the topic.

"The more urobilinogen that you have in your urine, the worse your urine smells and the less sterile it is."

Not arguing about the odor issue, but urine is either sterile, or it isn't, and if it isn't, you've got an infection. Are you saying that eating meat makes you more prone to a bladder infection?

She's not referencing urobilinogen! or otherwise discussing pee...she's referencing a concession made while dating a vegetarian.

Carrie: Wonders if she shoud do kinky thing just for this guy
Samantha: Ups sexual ante while downplaying kink
Charlotte: Has done a thing (that's not kinky) for a guy
