Convert Video to be played on a sony cybershot?

How can I encode a divx file into the proper mpeg format in order to play it on my sony cybershot digital camera? I have a 2gig memory stick on here and want to use it as a media player.

I found a program that will convert the files for me. However, it does not encode in 30fps, and the quality is not good either. I've tried to copy the settings made in the output file from this program, but just can't get it right.

I know that I have to do the following:

1. Change the file name to something recognizable by the camera.
2. Encode in mpeg1 with the proper audio encoding as well.

Is there something I'm missing?

If you have an LCD monitor, I would just use a tripod and record directly from the screen.

(oh, I should add that when I worked for the VRAC we did something like that to get the real time output of a windows program to show up under Linux for a demo. The video was about as good as if you would have rendered it to mpg)

Mencoder is a command line program that will do what you want. It can be a pain to figure out the exact command but it gives good results.
