Moving to Dominica

How is the living/lifestyle for US expats and travelers on the island of Dominica?
I am visiting the island nation of Dominica in January for a month, visiting and thinking of relocating to Dominica from Key West. [NOTE: My career background is in IT, eco-biology, and astronomy/science research.]

I spent a couple weeks there studying sperm whales. It's a very interesting island, and I found it to be extremely friendly.
We stayed at the Springfield Guest House, which was amazing. Excellent food and wonderful staff. It's in the interior, so we had to drive down to the water every day.
While we weren't working, we hiked up to see (and swim under) Middleham Falls, swam in Ti Tou Gorge, and snorkeled at a champagne spring (bubbles coming up through the rocks and coral). It's an amazing island.
Our interactions with residents of the island were primarily though our boat operators and the people who lived near Springfield (they had little stands/bars on the road.) Everyone was very friendly.
Good luck and have fun!

It is the major destination in the Americas for Sex Tourism and child prostitution, so if you are out in the general public then you can expect to often be approached by the sleazier elements.

MonkeySaltedNuts is thinking of the Dominican Republic, which is a different island from Dominica.
I question the haste to judge the DR by that yardstick, but that isn't relevant to mongonikol's question.

The Dominican Republic isn't an island, its a country. It and Haiti share the island of Hispaniola.

I believe he meant Dominica, not Dominican Republic.
