Polka recommendations

Can you help me build my jazz polka collection?

I am of Polish ancestry and at all our family reunions, holidays, picnics, etc., when I was growing up, there was always polka music in the background. And after hearing the polka that plays at this website, I was thinking that perahaps adding a few Polish-style polkas to my CD collection would be a good idea. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Die Knödel (Some of their music is polka, but not exactly traditional polka. But it is good.)

The Let's Polka blog may help. One of your choices should definitely be Frankie Yankovic, "America's undisputed polka king." This would be good. hortense's suggestion, Brave Combo, is a great band that plays a wonderful mix of world music, pop, polka and lots of other sounds; just be aware that some of their albums are more polka-filled than others.

Yay Brave Combo, hortense!

Also, I prefer my polka corrido-style. Texas governor Rick Perry knows which radio stations in your area play polka.

Oops! On rereading your question, I see you asked for Polish polka in particular. I can't help you there, but I suggest you look at Polkamart.

Response by poster: Thanks for the answers so far. I've been thinking about checking out Brave Combo (not so much for this specific question- Polish polka- but in general). They are a fave of the local public radio station, KERA, and I like what I've heard.

I'll look into some of the other links. Thanks for helping me with this!
