Parkside (on Haro in the West End) is open for lunch this month. Their three-course set menu is $35, but you could ask Chris Stewart if they could do you something within your budget.

Why not take the mini aquabus over to somewhere in Yaletown or along the water? The aquabus is always fun - it'll set the mood for non-work social time. You can buy packets of tickets. In Yaletown: Cactus Club (cheaper than $30 each), Blue Water Cafe (sushi and fish but they have everything), Urban Thai (yum, so good, call ahead because it's small), Glowbal (kind of yuppie but they have this smaller semi-upstairs level that would be great for a group), etc. Or somewhere like C would work too.

Amarcord
This charming and affordable Yaletown tratt, perhaps one of our most unsung, boasts thoughtful, mature service that stands out. Specializing in the cuisine of Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, it's a restaurant for grown-ups, foodies and those not looking to see or be seen. Start with a classic dish, melon wrapped in prosciutto before moving on to the "Zuppa Imperiale," a flavourful Italian cold remedy-chicken broth with mortadella and egg. For main courses, consider the maccheroni with Italian sausage, fresh herbs and cream, or the honest piccata of veal sautéed with olives and capers. At dessert, you're on your own--it's all good. 1168 Hamilton St., Yaletown, 604-681-6500. $$-$$$

Here's their website and lunch menu.

For what it's worth, I think Amarcord is not that great, especially for the price. If you want Italian in Yaletown, Cioppino's Enoteca is great for lunch. Now I'm hungry and homesick. Thanks a lot!

Do you like Chinese Food? Fortune Garden on Broadway between Granville and Hemlock is one of the best, and will easily meet your budget.

Check out "The Diner" in yaletown, I've seen private parties going on in there..

and the menu isn't that expensive... and the food is yummy

Feenie's is manageable under 30 unless you go nuts with booze, dessert and/or the more expensive items.

The truffle-flavoured mashed potatoes in the shepherd's pie is amazing.

Having said that, I don't know how booked up they are now.

I second the Diner - be warned though, they only take cash. It's part of the schtick.

Depending on when exactly your lunch is (relative to the school year), consider JJ Restaurant - it's in the downtown campus of VCC ( it's where the VCC culinary course students practice their craft) and you get really good food for well within your budget. The atmosphere is OK but NO view - it's an interior restaurant.

Seconding Parkside, though it might be a little expensive. Very memorable.

Water St. Cafe, on water street just next to gastown (close to the seabus) is a nice semicasual business lunch spot, reasonably priced and excellent food.
