My LCDs got the blues

My 2-year old LCD has a blue vertical line for anything not white. Can it be fixed?

I have a two-year old LCD that has a vertical line of stuck pixels. Any color on that line is now blue, with blue blue if the background is dark and a lighter blue depending on the color value. Total white makes the line go away.

It's not a software problem, the line appears even at POST, and it's not a cable problem, because the "No Signal Input" message displayed when the cable is disconnected also has the line.

So, my question is, can I make the line go away? I'm not averse to opening the display to fix it, but only if you guys suggest it - I wouldn't know what to do otherwise.

The monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 915n, running at native resolution (1280x1024) but the line appears on a non-native resolution as well. If it's relevant, the monitor is connected to my laptop with a VGA cable.

There's no way to know. My guess would be that a wire is unsoldered, and if it was reattached it would start working again. But it could also be a blown FET, in which case it can't be fixed.

Take it to a competent repair person.

I have a very similar fault on one of the old LCD's at a school, except that my line of dead pixels is horizontal and black.

Does pressing gently on the edges of the display at one end or other of your line affect it in any way? Because if it does, it could just be a bit of crud in one of the whatsits that connect the actual screen to its driving electronics.

If some kid of scientific slap upside the head doesn't fix it, though, then yeah - take it to somebody who fixes them for a living.

I've got the same exact monitor - Samsung has a 3 year warranty - let them pay for the repair.

I don't know if anyone's still looking at this thread...

but I've just got a problem of two vertical lines on my laptop's screen.

They go away when I press the top of the screen, but come back as soon as I release it. What's my best course of action and how much would any repair be likely to cost?
