Have you seen this image?

[Beautiful Shipwreck Filter] Two or more years ago I saw an incredible high-res 3D rendering of a ghostly old shipwreck stranded on ice. I vaguely recall seeing the pic on an online forum for 3D artists and I recall many of their comments were simply "Wow." Trying to locate that image and have had no luck. (more hints inside)

The image *might* have been a CG rendering of the wreck of the Endurance for a film or documentary but I'm not sure. But the detail and quality of the 3D work was on par with ILM and Digital Domain so it didn't appear for an average History Channel production.

I vaguely recall a mention that the image was produced in 3DS Max but that I'm not too sure about that either.

I've tried many Google Image searches and found nothing even close.

I suspect that the image you saw was of the Endurance, the ship used in an expedition to the South Pole headed by Ernst Shackleton. There are many links on the web for this amazing story but here is one I like with an opening sequence with perhaps the image you are seeking

Response by poster: Interesting pics, bluesky43, but the pic I recall was was definately a detailed CG rendering and not a photo. Thanks for lead, though!

Perhaps something by George Grie. These two come close to your description: The Flying Dutchman Phantom / The Sand Castle.

Could it have been by Caspar David Friedrich?
