Are digital photo viewer keyrings any good?

We want to get MIL a digital photo frame for Christmas. But at plus 100 euros for the cheapest one we can find, we can't afford one. A keyring version looks like a cheap alternative but we're seriously doubting their durability, picture quality and software.

We've only got about 30 euros to spend on one - is this budget only going to get us a cheap piece of crap or are these things worth buying?

This may not help you much, but in the U.S. the 7" versions of the frames are frequently showing up on the deal sites for ~$70, so you can probably find one on sale online somewhere if you look around a bit.

Best answer: Similar to Mr. Gunn's comments: here's a thread on FatWallet (a deal site) about those things. It includes links to a couple different reviews, including this amazon review.

Basically, from the comments in that thread and reviews (I've never used one in person), my impression is that it's a cute gift for $10-$20, but not worth more than that.

The ebay link you provided had this as the first result, which is not keyring and still under €30. Won't something like that do?

Just wanted to say thanks for the idea. I wanted to get my mom a full-sized one, but can't afford it, so I found a $17 keychain version on eBay. I won't get it for a few days, but if you email me (in profile) I'll let you know how it is. (Granted, I'm in the US, but it might be useful.)

Response by poster: Thanks for the replies. All useful, as usual. :-)

Based on inigo's comment, we are going to get one, but not yet. They appear to be good, but only for a good price. If you can get one for a few dollars then they are great stocking stuffers, but otherwise probably not worth it. The Christmas rush is driving prices up on ebay now, but I'm sure that in the new year, I'll be able to get one for about EUR20 including shipping.

Clarissa and Mr. Gunn - nope, in Holland I can't do much with deals in the US, and the price of he item Clarissa pointed out, evne before shipping, quickly rose above anything we could pay. Holland - great place to live, crap place to shop. ;-)

It would appear that this kind of thing is the gift this year and the deals on fatwallet make them so cheap that people there were talking about using them as gift tags!
