Question: New Year's Fun

Looking for some mid-ized group activities/themes for new year's eve. You'll find

So a group of close friends (15-18 total) are all heading out to a house together for New Year's festivities, and we're trying to think of some good activities. Can you suggest either:

+Good themes for the weekend (eg Casino, Pirates, etc [but less lame])

+Fun large-group activities or games
-- One idea we've hit upon is to do an "Iron-Chef"-styled cooking contest, but we're having trouble figuring out the logistics, so feel free to suggest a method.

Note that it'll be cold outside, so we want to keep things indoors and relatively low-key.

Thanks!

We've done the Iron Chef competition before. As for logistics, we had five categories (chicken, beef, fish, veal, or pork) for the main course and could find recipes for each beforehand. Then the 'secret ingredient' was chosen about an hour before the competition began so we could go grocery shopping. We also cooked a appetizer and desert that could be anything. As for the kitchen, our situation was kind of unique... we had two friends with apartments right next to each other with the exact same kitchen. So I'm not sure what to suggest there.

Hope that helps a little!

I suggest the game Apples to Apples. It's great because it gets better the more people you have. And depending on the crowd, it could get better the more alcohol you have. I ordered my set from Amazon, but I think they're selling it at Target now.

Oh, one more thing. My friends and I always give gag gifts. Have a $5 limit, everyone brings their present wrapped. Each gift gets a number assigned to it (sometimes based on the order the guests arrive). Each guest draws a number and gets the corresponding present.

Some of our past gifts: lots of ping pong balls, NunZilla, plastic flask, tootsie roll underwear, chocolate beer, nerf darts, sterilite containers, gallons of milk, windshield washer fluid, etc.
