Question: Keypress plays assigned sound effect

I want to trigger sound effects by pressing keys on my computer.

I want to assign sounds (44.1 khz wavs) to specific keys. I need polyphony so that when I cue rolling thunder, subsequent sounds do not kill the thunder.

What softwares will do this?

Yeah, soundplant is exactly what you are looking for. If you're on a mac, email the guy and he'll send you a copy of the Mac version, which is usable.
