Please don't pass the marmite

Family & Food Filter: In cross-cultural marriages/relationships, what food item was almost (or maybe is!) a deal breaker for you?

A friend and I were talking the other day and she mentioned that she had to gag down a curry when she ate at her Indian partner's family home for the first time - coming from an Italian background, it was all new to her. She loves them now though. For me, it was kippers for breakfast, and my husband will never persuade me to cook them.

In my case me being a mexican and my ex-girl an australian we had awful big issues related to that subject.
But the biggest deal braker was definitely vegemite, hated that thing the first time, but it is definitely an acquired taste, after some time it just grow into me, love it now.
Never have tried marmite although i know about it just as well as permite, another one of those "substances".

In her experience she had it tough although she quite could understand why I had to add "chilli" flavour to pretty much everything or how is it that I called tacos, soft shell tacos or mexican food and to the ones she knew as tacos, as hard shell tacos or texmex food.
