How To Fix Technorati's 'Claim A Blog'?

Does Technorati "Claim a Blog" actually work? Every few months I remember to try to update Technorati. When I enter my blog address, I get a message:
There was a problem claiming your blog. Please try again in a few minutes.
It's been like this for months.

My old "claim" said it had not been updated in 100s of days (despite auto and manual pings) so I deleted it. Is it now impossible to re-assert a claim for the same URL? I've emailed the tech support there several times but any messages just seem to go into a black hole. Does anyone have any experience with "fixing" a broken claim?

Yes, you can claim it again. Technorati's had its moments in its history, and I've had to reclaim my blogs from time to time. No biggy; just start over.

Best answer: I have had this problem once when I treid to claim my blog two different ways. I had put the code in the sidebar of my blog, but also put it into one of my posts because it hadn't seemed to work in the sidebar. Technorati acks up a hairball if it finds two claims on one blog,so check to make sure that's not your problem. You should be able to delete and reclaim your blog, I'm pretty sure I've done that.

I just successfully claimed my blog on technorati today without any issues. The other guy I write it with also claimed it, and we didn't have issues with the double-claim colliding. We both used the Quick-Verify, though, which it sounds like you're not using.

Response by poster: Thanks jessamyn, I checked my page and there was a technorati profile code snippet. However, on deleting it, and trying to re-claim yesterday and today, several times, I still get the error.

What's interesting is that I set up an alternative URL+DNS to point to the same content and that claim bypasses the error page and proceeds to stage 2. So it seems to be some problem with technorati's database and my old, original URL.

I may just have to go and camp outside Technorati's door in SOMA...

I had some problem doing this the other day too, I would have my embedded claim in my sidebar, but Technorati wouldn't pick it up (i.e. it said there was an error)

I left it for a bit, did some other stuff on there, and when I came back it said that the claim had succeeded, so there may be some sort of batch job that runs it rather than being real time.
