BluesFilter: A couple of years ago, a friend and I were flipping past the blues channel on XM radio, and stumbled across the one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. I want to find a copy for my friend for a Christmas gift. Of course, I have no idea what the song actually is. Help me, O HiveMind!

All I can remember is that we heard it on the XM blues station, it was sung by a man, and that in the song, this gentleman was repeatedly lamenting the fact that he "had a hole in [his] love bucket."

Google gives me a million different versions of this song, but that's not it. Any other possibilities spring to mind? Thanks!

Possibly not the song you're looking for, because it's funk rather than blues, but everyone should have a copy of 'Check Your Bucket' by Eddie Bo, which does have extensive lyrics about how his 'bucket got a hole in it' along with references to a 'love bucket'.

There's also a song by Spearhead / Michael Franti called 'Hole in the bucket', but no 'love'. It's bluesy certainly, and a little funny, but is actually about our failure to support the poor...

Wow... I think that's it, but the version I heard was a little more stripped-down, and not so overtly funky. Possibly a live version? Regardless, you've given me a much better set of search parameters, so thanks!

Hmm... well I have 'part 1' and 'part 2' versions, the 'part 1' starts with just bass and the guitar riff comes in later; 'part 2' is basically a continuation and has the guitar from the start. The version on this is part 1, if that's any help...

There's the always classic Sesame Street version of "There's a hole in my bucket, dear liza", which is funny. However it is more of a country/bluegrass type of joint.

I doubt it is the one you are looking for, though.

You can listen to Duke and the Drivers version of "Check Your Bucket" at Barnes & Noble.

You can hear Paul Cebar & The Milwaukeeans sing it at Amazon.

The Eddie Bo version is listenable on Rhapsody (maybe?)
