The price is WRONG, bitch!

Game Show Filter: I have reserved "tickets" (a print-out of a weak looking confirmation web page, actually) for The Price is Right next week. How early should arrive to make sure I get in?

Has anybody been to a TPIR taping? I'd like to know what to expect and what I can do to increase my chances of getting in (or getting picked to come on down!). Now that Bob Barker has announced his retirement, I expect it might be even harder to get in. Any advice or anecdotes would be appreciated.

The instructions included on the confirmation page are pretty convoluted: Priority numbers will be issued starting at 8:00am for the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Friday, if applicable) shows effective May 3, 2004. The gate to the audience holding area will open at 6:00am. If you arrive before 8:00am, you will be given an "Order of Arrival Pass" which will show your numeric order of arrival but is not a priority number. At 8:00am, the "Order of Arrival Pass" will be exchanged for a priority number, which is written on the Price ticket. Stand-by numbers are issued after all priority numbers have been exhausted. One priority number will be issued for each person with a ticket. Each online ticket will take up to four people for numbering purposes. If you receive a priority number you will return at 9:00am for the 1:15pm taping and 12:00pm for the 4:30pm taping on Mondays and at 10:00am for the 2:30pm taping on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Ticket distribution is in excess of studio capacity. Therefore, a ticket does not guarantee admittance.

Here is a blog about the process.

I've been to one. We got there at 7:30 and were still boggled by the amount of people that got there ahead of us. We got our priority number and then slept in the car until 10:00. We got in just fine and had a blast, though the sleep-deprivation of driving all night and then waiting in line all day has fuzzed my memory a bit.

Have stuff with you to keep you entertained in line. You will be in line from 10:00 onward, and you can only do so much home-made T-shirt people-watching. It might be a little more crowded now that Bob has announced his retirement. Bring snacks.

At some point each audience member is brought before a producer so they can pick who gets on. They've seen it all, so don't try to second-guess what they are lookng for; just be yourself.

(Pst, a friend of mine was on Price is Right, and he won a car and a trip to Ireland. I think he was picked because he's perky, has a big smile, and was wearing a college sweater in a big group of college kids.

The studio is teeny-tiny, you'll be surprised. Also Bob Barker is a real monster jerk as soon as the cameras are off him. Don't get your hopes up- I regretted the day I wasted going to TPIR.

Hmm, although I should add that my friend who won a car and a vacation and a bedroom set would probably disagree.
