Has anyone heard of/used word of mouth exchange

I've been getting these emails of late saying someone is looking for info on me. I'm assuming it's just spam. Anyone had any experience with this?

Scam. The new cover is, alas, social network software. After all, everyone has their own now.

Today's WSJ had a small article. The company is registered in the Philippines, and the NY State Consumer Protection Board last year listed it as one of the "Top 10 Internet Headaches & Scams."
