Where will my blog live?

My current web hosting service term is up, and I need to look at my options. I just do some basic blogging, and use services like Flickr to handle posting my photos online, so I don't need something too elaborate.

Right now, I use Wordpress hosted at Dreamhost. I am looking at both what to manage my blog with, as well as where to host it.

I used to use TypePad, which I loved for the simplicity and no-hassle hosting, but remembering that it wasn't as versatile as I would have liked.

Welcome any suggestions of not only where but how to host my site.

Why are you looking for other options? In other words, what is Dreamhost (and WP?) NOT providing that you want?

If it's been a while since you've used TypePad, you might want to take another look -- with the addition of Widgets and lots of other new features, the sites can be a lot more flexible than they used to be. And you can do things like edit your own CSS without having to manage all your templates yourself.

I work with the team that makes TypePad, so that's my disclaimer, but I do use it for a few of my sites and have been a lot happier with the flexibility over the past few months.

Oh, and Drupal is the CMS to rule them all.

The people that make WordPress also offer hosting, so if you're happy with WordPress, you might try that. It might not be quite as versatile as running WordPress on your own, though: I don't think you can go in and edit the PHP or anything like that. (I should say, I don't have any real experience with WordPress. But it seemed worth mentioning.)

As Anil said, TypePad is now more flexible, and, as you know, the hosting is included. I use TypePad for my blog. Being a bit more technically inclined than average, TypePad is a bit too restrictive for me, and Movable Type a bit too involved. Have you tried Vox? It's from Six Apart, the same folks who brought you TypePad and Movable Type.

If you're happy with wp/dreamhost and are thinking about typepad, check out what you get with your money for each. Easy decision (unless you don't care about the money). Run from typepad.

If typepad is too restrictive vox would be far worse.
