Too bad I already went as Eddie Munster

I'm going as the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. I don't want to do a whole wolf outfit...just something that gives the impression of a wolf.

I'm looking for simple, tactful ideas of how to make the wolf thing obvious without being postmodern. (i.e. no shirts that say "wolf" on it).

I was thinking of wearing a suit, coloring my nose black, wearing some sort of earheadband, maybe those grinch-like wristbands of fur and making a tail somehow (any ideas on the tail?) If I can't find a cheap suit to cut the tail end out of, what else would a wolf wear?

I'm open to any and all brainstorming ideas as I would like to really sell the idea, yet not have much costume overhead.

What about wearing the granny cap & gown, plus a wolf mask, and glasses? The wolf in the story didn't appear to Red Riding Hood as a full-blown wolf. Or is that too literal?

My mom and dad went out as LRRH and the wolf one year. She put all sorts of effort into her costume - red outfit, basket, making her hair more girlie etc.

My dad? He bought a rubber wolf mask and put on a long overcoat over what he was wearing. Worked just fine.

In one version of the story, Red says, "what big ears/hands/teeth you have." You could get the big (wolf) ears, teeth and hands (paws) and then have the tail sticking out of the back of your pants.

Wear brown corduroy pants and a brown turtleneck. Add the mask and a tail, viola!

Response by poster: All great ideas (the tail seems to be a must) and I'll probably end up doing one of those...but I wanted something with a little more..."style"?

If I was going to make-up my hands to look like paws, what would be the most convenient make-up that I wouldn't have to worry about rubbing off?

I'd go with ears (perhaps attached to a headband) in addition to the tail. They won't impede you in any way, and the point will be clear.

If your audience is old enough to remember the old Tex Avery cartoons, you could go as this wolf... (GIS "tex avery wolf")

And for paws, cheap black or grey gloves, with a patch of the same fake fur as your tail, on the back of the hands.

Response by poster: You know, I didn't even think about looking for suggestions in this particular part of the internet but damn do they know how to do things like this. sigh. I won't be happy with ANY tail I make this weekend.

My first image when you say big, bad wolf is a Hugh Hefner kind of wolf. Satin smoking jacket and pipe instead of a suit. Or the wolf dressed as granny, with a long nightgown and dressing cap. Which version you go with may depend on whether you want to actually look attractive or not.

Response by poster: Ah! the smoking jacket and pipe sort of thing. That's what I was looking for! Humanized wolf clothings.

How about an eared hoodie, plus a wolf nose? (Many sources for this mini-mask; see google.)

There's also a wolf hat -- really a toothy wolf face that you wear on top of your head, with your own face showing.

I like the San Diego zoo and all, but their wolf mask is lame.

May be too late, but definitely stop shaving now. When I think of "wolf", I think of a creepy looking dude with 4 day stubble.
