Question: Columbia TN things to do

I will be in the Columbia/Hohenwald, TN area this weekend and am looking for some things to do. I have been told there are lots of historical sites around and lots of plantations. The problem is that I can't seem to find much online. Does anyone know of some good things to do and see? Good restaurants would be a plus!

Well, as a columbia resident, I can attest to the fact that there isn't a WHOLE lot to do (though nashville is really close by)...

As far as food, I would definitely recommend a place called Santa Fe Steakhouse on route 50 by the mall.

Reasonable prices, really good food, and a really wide variety. You can't beat their yeast rolls.

There is an EXCELLENT disc golf course at Henry Horton State Park, and the Duck River is really nice for canoeing.

Yeah I know there isnt MUCH to do, but thought I might give it a try! What about good drives (other than the Trace) and good sites to see -- i was told there were plantations. Do any do tours or could anyone send me information on sites to visit?

Hohenwald TN is the home of The Elephant Sanctuary (I know - more elephants!) If they are having a volunteer day, you can go dig fence holes, or shovel manure and generally contribute to the well-being of retired circus elephants! (Well. It's different.)

Ummm, when I was a teenager in near Nashville, we'd sometimes go to Hohenwald for the dig room thrift stores. If I recall correctly, Hohenwald in particular is a relatively poor area without much in the way of world class entertainment.

Henry Horton is probably a decent bet if it's warm enough to be outside. Canoeing the Duck is fun.

Also, according to ePodunk.com, the area museums are the "Historic Blackburn Farmstead & Pioneer Museum, Lewis County Museum, Meriwether Lewis Park, Grave and Monument."

Most of the good plantation-type sites (Carnton Mansion, the Hermitage, Carter House, Bellmeade Plantation) are around Nashville or nearby Franklin (my home town).
