FontFilter: what's the font in which the word "Gutschein" is written on this concentration camp money?

It's so...inappropriately...jaunty, I guess?

Response by poster: What The Font can't really seem to see it very well. It's only picking up on the giant white letters in the background.

Response by poster: And IdentiFont thinks it's Seersucker Outline, which ain't even close.

Best answer: I think it is clearly hand-drawn. This gif compares the two versions of "cent" from the note. They are the same style as "Gutschein". You can see they aren't similar enough to be from a pre-computer typeface. Note especially the width of the "C" and the diagonal of the "N":

The site itself seems to indicate that it is hand-drawn in that the prisoners themselves often did the work.

Response by poster: I know it was probably hand-drawn, but I was hoping it was based on a real font. It looks great.

Response by poster: If anyone makes a font based on this, I'll buy it. I recommend you name it something like "Gallows Humoresque", in homage its lightheartedness in the face of the Holocaust.

Response by poster: To amend my question a little, is there an extremely similar font?

Best answer: Freezer seems kind of close.

Response by poster: You're right, it is! Too bad they don't make it in an outline, that's really similar. It's a lot blockier, sterner, and less carefree than what I want though.

Response by poster: Pretty inexpensive at $13 though, that's nice.

Yeah, those kicky little serifs really make the difference. If it helps at all, I found that by searching for 1940s fonts.

And if all else fails, make someone draw it for you and fontify it.
