Question: Skunked or not?

Cribbage expertise sought for peculiar situation.

The final hand has been played, and my opponent, counting first, has counted his points, reaching 121. We're playing muggins, however, and he has missed counting a pair, two points which would coincidentally just save me from being skunked. Is the game over when he reaches 121, even though he counted incorrectly, or can I snag those two points and save myself from total humiliation?
N.B. I have searched several rules sites to no avail.

Cribbage is first-past-the-post. The game ends when one player hits 121. At that point all scoring stops.

In other words, you got skunked. The two points you could snag are no different than the points you could count in your hand -- too little, too late.

Sorry, no. Once his hand is counted and 121 is reached it's over for you. No official source on this, but I've played a lot of crib and the game is over immediately once someone reaches 121.

I think you are you skunked. Once one person passes the finish point, the game is over. You wuoldn't get your points in your hand, or the cirb, so you don't get the muggins points.

Had the other player miscounted the other way, though, and pegged to the finish *without* having enough points in his hand, in that case examining his counting would be significant, no?

yes, if he miscounted too many points, then he would have to go back to the correct spot and you would get to count your hand and crib. or deal the next hand.
