It's an instrumental version of "Teardrop" by Massive Attack off of their album "Mezzanine".

Mr. Slaw has it. The full version of the song contains a lovely ethereal vocal track; the rest of "Mezzanine" is darker than "Teardrop", but it's a phenomenal album and should be owned by all right-thinking persons.

The above is true only if you're watching the original American version. Here in Australia the theme has been replaced by some non-descript bit of junk.

Bizarrely, I knew this because I was watching House with the subtitles for the deaf the other night and it came up on screen. "THEME TUNE: MASSIVE ATTACK, 'TEARDROP'"
