Question: Solutions for building a photo rating website?

Does anybody have any experience with "rate my _blank_" type photo rating software? Specifically, I'm looking at MiPhoto or an open-source alternative with a similar set of features. Suggestions from the hive mind?

So, I know it's a really Web1.0 thing, but I'm looking for advice or suggestions on photo rating software, for use on a site along the lines of a "rate my cat/dog/shoes/whatever" type website.

Right now, the front (and only) runner for me is MiPhoto.

The catch is, I'm trying to do this on a very small budget. While I can probably afford to shell out for MiPhoto Pro, I'd love to find an open-source way to do this. But, if an open-source or lower priced alternative exists, I haven't been able to find it. I'm looking for a more-or-less off the shelf solution.

I'm nervous because the example sites listed on the MiPhoto website seem less than impressive. I don't know if it's the software itself, or just crappy content.

So, ringing endorsements? Suggestions for alternatives? Link to some kickass Joomla plugin that I've missed?

Ning? Seems like it has exactly what you need, and within your budget (free). Here's their sample ratings app.

Thanks johndavi, but Ning isn't quite what I'm looking for. I'd like something that I can install off the shelf on my own space, but that can let me muck around with the styling. Much like installing Wordpress, Joomla, et al.

I might be looking for something that doesn't exist!

This is interesting, because I was wondering the same thing ... about five months ago, I stumbled upon a site that defaulted to a thumbnail gallery - about 50 thumbs on the main page - and underneath each one was the typical Amazon "five hollow stars" rating bar. Visitors could rate each pic from the homepage without leaving that page.

It seemed very robust, with auto-generated links to "top-rated," "most viewed," all that ... and, of course, I immediately forgot the site and have spent much time since then trying to rediscover it ...
