Halloween Costume Idea

Looking for a good Halloween costume for 2 straight college guys
My roommate and I are considering doing some sort of pair costume for Halloween this year but we're really not coming up with anything good. We kinda like the idea of something funny and a little classic (i.e. Blues Brothers or Hans and Frans) but we're also worried people might not get it.
We're both juniors in college so that will tell us what the audience is. Also, I added the "straight" above, just to avoid confusion. I asked some of the people I work with and they got the wrong idea. I hope that doesn't offend anybody. Thanks in advance.

My close friend and I are deciding between Billy and Jimmy Lee of Double Dragon fame, or Hall and Oates.

The Ambiguously Gay Duo, if done well, is comedic gold.

Everyone will get the Blues Brothers. If they don't they are not worth talking to :)
That said, any hero/ sidekick dynamic could be fun, and you have several generations to pull from: Bat man and Robin, Green Hornet and Kato, etc. (hell, now that I think of it, Clouseau and Kato would also be awesome.)
Or a Matrix type Mr. Smith and crew (matching suits, sunglasses, and ear pieces.)
Another option would be a Fight Club's Tyler Durden and Jack, but you really have to commit to make that work (and having a trashy awesome chick to play the Helena Bonham Carter/ Marla Singer character would be a big plus).
You could go silly boy band and do Hanson or Milli Vanilli. (though that could be stupid enough to get you injured.)
My personal favorite was one my buddy and I did a few years ago. He went as a stereotypical vampire and I went as a vampire hunter/ priest. We made it a point to circle around one another at the party and skirmish occasionally. Great fun was had. (very few bones were broken.) You may consider any kind of adversarial characters to accomplish the same thing. (sports teams could work well here.)
But really, at the end of the day just embrace being a straight, normal guy with a sense of ridiculous irony and have both of you go as full-on drag queens. I've seen it done and I am not too proud to admit that, despite the cleverness of my costume, those 'queens' had every girl in the house chasing after them.

My uncles were seniors in college last year (they're twins) & they were Hans and Frans, and pretty much everyone got it. I like the Paris and Nicky Hilton idea though.

I always suggest a little local flavor. So if, say, you're in southern California, one of you dress as Cal Worthington, and the other as a tiger.
Otherwise, you can never go wrong with Adam West as Batman and Cesar Romero as the Joker. The key is to make sure Batman is blue and out of shape, and the Joker is purple with green hair and has a white painted moustache; the moustache is critical! It's a wee-bit of an old Strong Bad rip off, so expect that, but it doesn't detract from it being great.

This isn't quite "classic," but maybe the Bacardi and Cola guys from the ads, and it would be a great excuse to carry around rum and cola at a party. On the other hand, people who aren't aware of recent pop culture may just see you as Crockett and Tubbs.

If one of you wants to go the blackface route you could stuff yourselves into an oversized sweatshirt and go as Rosie Greer and Ray Miland. (That's what they call a 1percenter in the industry)

Not so mych a "classic," but I knew 2 guys who went as a lion and a gazelle a while back. And with that costume, if the party gets boring (or, like me at the time, you're at UW-Madison and hanging out on State St), you can always just start chasing each other around.

Lazy man's pair costume: one man wears something with a large number '2" or just tapes number to chest -- other wears large curly wig. "To and Fro." Downside: somewhat difficult to explain to drunk people if you become separated.

!!! cal worthington is strictly norcal, my friend, even if he does have a dealership in long beach now.
sadly, i haven't seen his commercials in a looooong time. Good to hear they're playing them down there.
trivia: i went to driving school with his grandson.

Hank and Dean Venture. Great if you both have a similar build, and the costumes are relatively easy to duplicate on the cheap.

I was once a carrot, at age 5 or so; my mom was a rabbit. One of the most fun costumes I've ever done.
Other good buddy pairings:
Ham and Egg
Knight and Dragon
Fork and Spoon
Thomson and Thompson^ from the Tintin comics; fairly easy if you can dig up a pair of black bowlers.

Devil(s) with a blue dress on. My most successful costume, evah. A sly visual gag; you get to make up your face and have horns and play up your facial/chest hair, etc., add horns and teeth or whatever, add heels, and any blue dress. It's liberating , and will be a hit. May possibly get you some play.
