What computer game is this?

What computer game did we play at school circa 1993?

I'm trying to remember the name of a game that we used to play during free periods in my computer class in high school. It was a mac game in which a bunch of patterned squares were stacked on a white background, and you had to find matching sets of squares in order to reveal the ones below. You'd win the level by matching them all.

Every kid in my school played this game, and I've talked to other adults my age who remember playing this game in school as children, but I can't remember what it's called.

Probably Mahjong Solitaire, more accurately. Mahjong is quite different. There's a so-so version to play online here.

Here is an insanely comprehensive list of Solitaire MahJongg games for the Mac, you should be able to find yours there somewhere. Some of them have download links.

Best answer: I remember my school's iteration of the game was called "Taipei" for some reason.

The page wackybrit linked to mentions that the name of the game was Shanghai, which is the one I remember from my OS 7 days circa 1998. If you're looking to recreate the experience, there's now a shareware version for OS X called Aki.

My guess is that it was a game called "Gunshy"

I'm sorry to hear that you missed out on the best game ever.

Response by poster: Jeffrygardner has it, although it looks like several of the others are the same game by different names.

And yes, we also played Oregon Trail; but I didn't forget the name of that one.

Thanks, everyone!

"Gunshy" was Shanghai under a different name, Good Brain. :) The version of it I had, had the faces of a bunch of cartoony gangsters and such on each tile. Shanghai, Taipei, Gunshy, etc. -- all the same game, and a lot of fun.
