Teacherfilter: Our school has shiny new interactive whiteboards - fantastic, but we need to figure out what to do with them. I'm looking for (educational) games, applications and any bright ideas. Think of it as a big touch-screen PC and help us make learning more fun.

The boards themselves are made by Promethean and they come with some rather plain whiteboard software. They can do more. An example of the kind of thing I'm looking for is a Hangman/Jeopardy type game (like this - but with our own phrases) which we can use to set quizzes and generally make lessons more fun. Free is good (naturally). As I say, it's really a large touch-screen PC. The only constraint is that right-clicking is really clumsy, but otherwise any PC application is fair game. (native 1028 x 764)

Here's some Board boards. ;) with useful discussions of software deployed in various situations. What grades have got the boards? They are used in a lot of special education settings to great effect.

Miniclips has a bunch of free hangman games. Do you have any software from publishers? What subject do you teach?

mattbucher. I teach ICT but I'm looking for general purpose utilities and games as well - this is for a large secondary school with some special education provision and English as an additional language in the mix.

Vocabulary games
QuizShow (fully adaptable, you can upload your own questions and word banks to it, but it's not free)
InQuizitor (also a fully adaptable game, you can upload your own questions and word banks to it, but it's not free)
Also, can you play DVDs on it?

Here are some fun Powerpoint templates for you to make into games like Jeopardy, Hollywood Squares, etc.

Smartboard is another manufacturer and here is a link with some of their suggestions for uses in the classroom.
