Question: Macbook and cigar smell

Can I occasionally smoke cigars around my Macbook without making it smell?

As fall descends on Houston, it's finally getting nice enough outside that I could tolerate being out on the balcony of my apartment at night. I just recently got a Macbook, and I've also just started occasionally smoking cigars. If I was very careful with my ash, would smoking a cigar while using the computer make it smell like crap for a long time? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent it? I've read some questions about getting the smell out of apartments and such, but this is a different story.

Outside this shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't blow your smoke at the screen. If you already tried this and it didn't work then you are probably SOL as tobacco smell stays nasty for a long time.

I'm sure he appreciates the unsolicited commentary, soundslike..., but you didn't advance the discussion.

I can speak to the original issue, because I do smoke cigars around my laptop sometimes, and in general, it's not a problem. If you're outside, it's even less of a problem. I find that leaving the computer on and open (*definitely open*) for a few hours afterwards pretty much clears the smell out.

I used to bring my laptop to a cigar store with WiFi and found that the smell disappeared within a day or two.

Yeah, you should be fine -- I smoke 1-2x a week, and I generally just wash my hands and do a quick swipe of the lappy with an alcohol based wipe, and that takes care of any debris and most smells. I usually try to smoke my cigars with only a fine beverage and a smile -- but if you feel like perusing the interwebs whilst partaking, more power to you.

What would be even better is if people would not assume that we have never heard any of their indignant opinionating about cigar smoking, or smoking in general and just keep it to themselves...
especially when the indignant opinionating is probably not true, and well...is just that, indignant opinionating.

In the words of Herr Freud, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
