What movie am I thinking of??

MovieFilter: Too many zombie movies to choose from, what one am I thinking of? There's...

OK. Like most of these questions my memories are fuzzy and I may be mixing two movies together. The timeframe I'm thinking of is early 90's maybe late 80's. The movie focuses on re-animating the dead, so naturally I always assumed that it was "the re-animator". But I just rented that... good, but not it.

I think there was some sort of detective story in it? One of the characters may have been a cop? When the dead were brought back they would only live for a certain amount of time (a week) and then they would litterally fall appart in a pile of parts. Also, I don't think they craved brains...

Dead and Buried?

Features a cop...

Definitely NOT Return of the Living Dead... classic which features the craving of brains:

"I can smell you brains, Tina. I love you Tina. I want to eat your brains."

Also, if you like old Zombie movies, Beyond.

You could be thinking of Cast a Deadly Spell or Witch Hunt. They were supernatural detective movies, and I think at least one has re-animation.

Dead and Buried sounds closer, though. It was early 80's.

I'm guessing it was Cast a Deadly Spell ... sounds like it.

The Beyond is a great flick, but if you are going to reccommend a Lucio Fulci zombie movie then it really has to be Zombi 2 aka Zombie. It has one of the greatest zombie scenes ever - underwater zombie vs. a great white shark. (But that's definitely not the movie Mark5four0 is looking for.)

Your description made me think of The Hidden for some reason. Although the people aren't dead when they're taken over, but they don't survive very long once they are. Kyle MacLachlan plays an "FBI agent".

Oh God... It was Dead Heat. I can't believe the movie I was thinking of starred Joe Piscopo and Treat Williams. Thats almost depressing. But I guess the Zombie/Buddy Cop genre can only go so far.

But thanks anyway guys, all these movies sem awesome. I'll have to see them soon.

Dead Heat is great. I love the scene where the animals in a butcher shop come to life.
