Is there where I get to talk about glorious booty?

Check with your local rennaissence festival organizers and society for creative anachronism. I'd bet they've got people who have made them, and may even have one you can borrow or buy.

The "Jack Sparrow" hat described in the pdf above certainly sounds like it would work (eventually) though the thought of boiling water, dye, and hand-stitching leather gives me the heebie-jeebies.

A shortcut might be to purchase a "J. Lo." hat like this one:

... then bend the brim into the tricorne shape. You can fancy it up with braid trim glued or sewn around the edge of the brim, feathers, or whatever piratey stuff you have lying around the house.

The original of the tricorne was a hat more or less this shape, though probably in a stiffer felt than the J. Lo. model. But since you'll be pinning the brim up anyway, the softer fabric probably won't matter all that much.

Just type "tricorn hat patterns" in the search bar of your browser and you're there.

Response by poster: Now why didn't I think of a browser search?
