What is your passion?

This is not a cutesy question, and I am not referring to passion towards a specific person such as a spouse or significant other. I am curious about interests, hobbies, goals - basically anything intelligent people do for recreation. Activities outside your familial and work commitments that you do for pure enjoyment (even if it's sometimes challenging to the point of frustration!)

If it is considered "just a hobby" or something you're just now becoming interested in, tell me about that too.

I request your responses for a project I am working on. It is still in the incubation phase, but I need to know: What are your passions? Can you list more than three? To be entirely honest, I cannot. Which is partly why I ask.

I am also interested to hear from those who have no passion to speak of. And I am especially interested to hear from women, whom I theorize have far fewer passions than men.

I greatly appreciate any insight you can give!

You're completely cutting off anything related to maintaining or stregthening relationships, which is traditionally where women's energy goes, and then you're assuming that women have fewer passions or hobbies than men? Don't you think your assumptions are biasing this a bit?

Response by poster: I am sorry, I must explain that most of my exposure to females (of which I am one) is at work in an almost all female office, and it's sad to see them come in day after day and not really speak of anything other than taking care of their families (an important task, I know) and their overwhelming work load. If I ask them what they do for fun, they almost always say: sleep!

That was in no way meant to offend anyone. I wouldn't have asked here if I thought the women here lacked passion/hobbies/interests.

I honestly think I am asking a genuine question.

In pigwidgeon's defense to the "chatfilter comments"...

I request your responses for a project I am working on.

Please limit comments to answers or help in finding an answer. Wisecracks don't help people find answers. Thanks.

I think the first response was the most accurate so far, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and respond sincerely:

Animals: My wife and I have a great passion for animals and their care. We have a menagerie of pets and volunteer at the Humane society.

Media: Movies specifically. I am determined to one day make a 'B' movie and have dedicated a substantial portion of my time to watching the works of other directors who have succeeded in this field (read as, I watch a lot of bad films), but I also love music, reading fiction, and yes, even TV.

Technology: This ties in with my love of media. Video editing, cameras, lights. But also gadgets like GPS and emergent technologies. I like to try to predict what applications new technology will have.

Guns: what can I say, I like to shoot. But I also like the mechanics and craft that goes into making a well made firearm.

And that's me.
