Domain Tranfer Authorization Code

Is Register.com playing games?

I've unlocked a domain at Register.com (some time ago) and I've initiated a transfer a couple of days ago.
Part of the process is confirming the transfer and providing an authorization code.
Register.com claims they've not assigned an authorization code to the domain name and I should just go ahead and transfer without one. But of course, you can't.
And yet in thier FAQ they have instructions about viewing the Authorization Code (you're instructed to click a non-existant link) and in the tranfer process (by OpenSRS) they state:

The AUTH code is created at the time a domain is registered. Domain transfer requests must include the AUTH code to confirm transfer authority. The AUTH code can be found by contacting your current Domain Registration Service Provider and they must provide it to you. If they do not, the Domain Registration Service Provider is in breach of their Registry-Registrar Agreement and you should contact the appropriate Registry.

Anyone successfully gotten an Authorization Code from Register.com?

When I worked for a domain registration company it was our responsibility to give you the codes. If someone wished to have one, we'd get into contact with the domain owner (as recorded in our database) and provide the code.
