What windows (2K) software do you prefer to rip CDs to mp3? (Aside from iTunes, which I had to uninstall after it totally hosed my machine.)

itunes hosed my machine as well, i like CDex or roxio audiocentral which comes with ez cd creator 6

I used CDex with Windows, it worked very well (but given I use OS X now, iTunes is the weapon of choice).

The latest version of iTunes seems to be kinder to Win2k in my experience. I also use CDEx though, if I don't want to rip to AAC.

I used CDex on the counsel of the previous thread on the subject, and found it to be remarkably agile and effective.
