when did sexy ever leave?

when did sexy ever leave music? entertainment? what's with the shameless plug of timberlake's album incorporated into 4 different guests' speech at mtv's video music awards?

i apologize in advance for the incoherentess that follows.

i'm 21, and i find it really difficult to identify with my generation. and i mean REALLY difficult. i digress. the point is, the vast lengths advertisement will go to plug _one_ product just amazes me time after time. it's 3am now and the re-run of the video music awards on mtv is what's on.

four, 4, FOUR different presenters/celebrities so far have plugged timberlake's sexyback album into their lines--their at most two minutes-long, pre-formulated, scripted speeches. what prompted, propelled more like, me to ask this question is when AL GORE plugged it. are you serious? AL GORE? what does al gore know about "bringing sexyback"?

the "pluggers" could not have been more diverse. first, lil'kim; second and third i dont remember! ack!--one was in the rock/punk arena; and fourth, al gore.

haha, i would not be surprised if the mods deleted this question cause where's my question? i dunno either. =P

This post was deleted for the following reason: Questions that are some version of "What is the deal with X?"or "X sucks, am I right?" tend to not go well on Ask MetaFilter.

Congratulations. you just discovered that MTV is about product placement. Soon you'll discover that all celebrities and politicians are scripted. You should read fast food nation next to discover why you shouldn't buy food at chain restaurants.

Maybe it's not meant for "your" generation, but the 12yo-16yo crowd?

And while i didn't see the VMAs, i agree with you on the advertising... then again, maybe the advertising ppl are feeling the pinch from all the teens with money to spend but an attention span of a goldfish?

I think you're right that your question will be deleted. It's a rant.

But the MTV 21-year-old crowd is not necessarily "your" generation. I'm also 21 and identify with none of the shallow, vacuous partiers paraded across the screen--and neither do any of my 21-year-old friends. The kids on TV are the media's version of our generation. The reality is quite a bit different depending where you go.

If you are watching the mtv awards you've got no taste in the sexy. Internal Contradiction. Delete thread.

You were watching MTV and was expecting anything other than unabashed commercialism and marketing hype?
Wait...let me ammend that;
You were watching television and was expecting anything other...

Nobody can relate to this bullshit. Music has been largely dead for like six years now. Where have you been?

I'm told that kids who are like 19 right now, totally love whatever this crappy kind of music that is popular. Not even sure I believe that one.

this is completely subjective and this question is unanswerable except by buffoons who think they know something about contemporary and yesterday's music.

Boo hoo, the music that was on when I was younger was so much better! And less commercialized!

You're a little young to be pulling the "back in my day..." speech, no?
